Scope
Optical burst switching (OBS) and optical packet switching (OPS) are promising technologies that that efficiently utilise bandwidth of WDN optical fiber networks, avoiding the optical electronic optical conversion bottlenecks. Advances in optical component technologies, growing popularity of Fiber To The Home (FTTH) and corresponding predicted growth in demand for bandwidth, make optical burst/packet switching an increasingly attractive and practical architecture for the next-generation of optical networks.
